Mr. Hazlett is a partner and his practice includes representation of parties involved in the development, construction, ownership, financing, management, leasing, purchase and sale of hotels, resort condominiums, vacation ownership projects, shopping centers and office buildings, as well as the representation of financial institutions in connection with lending, compliance and regulatory matters. Mr. Hazlett has been named in several selective legal directories, including Best Lawyers in America for over a decade, and Chambers USA from 2003-2008.

Mr. Hazlett is currently serving as a co-editor of the Second Edition of the proposed four-volume Hawaii Real Estate Law Manual to be published from 2008 through 2011 by the University of Hawaii Press. He was co-editor of the Hawaii Commercial Real Estate Manual , published by the Hawaii Institute of Continuing Legal Education in 1988, co-editor and a co-author of both the Hawaii Real Estate Financing Manual in 1990 and the three-volume Hawaii Real Estate Law Manual published in December, 1997, which included as a chapter his article "Hawaii Regulation of Real Estate Lenders". He also was co-chair and co-author of the Report of the Committee for Plain Language Conveyancing of the Hawaii State Bar Association, 16 Hawaii Bar Journal 91 (1981); author of "California Residents and Hawaii Real Estate", Real Property News , Official Publication of California Bar Real Property Law Section (later renamed) (1981), reprinted by the California Escrow Association's CEA News (1982); "Act 50 Blues: Owner-Occupant Overkill", HSBA Real Property and Financial Services Section Newsletter (later renamed Ka Nu Hou ) (1992) (co-author); Author, "Negotiating Key Lease Provisions: Landlord's Point of View, Advanced Conference on Commercial Real Estate Leases, CLE International" (1993, 1994, 1996 and 1998); Author, "Mandatory Seller Disclosure Law", Ka Nu Hou , (1995), "Hawaii State Taxation of Banks and Other Financial Institutions" appearing in State Survey of the Taxation of Financial Institutions (American Bar Association Tax Section 1995) (co-author), Co-Author, "A New Law of Secured Transactions for Hawaii, " 4 Hawaii Bar Journal 16 (2000), Author, "Revised UCC Article 9 and Real Estate Financing", Commercial Real Estate Financing in Hawaii Conference, Lorman Education Services (2002 and 2003). He was a co-recipient in 2009 of the Hawaii State Bar Association's 'Ikena Award for legal education service.


Mr. Hazlett has also participated in various capacities in assisting in the drafting specific amendments or wholesale revisions to Hawaii Code of Financial Institutions, predecessor laws governing specific types of financial institutions, Hawaii Leasehold Disclosure Law, Condominium Law, Residential Real Estate Disclosure Law, Time Share, Credit Sales Act, Mortgage Law, Usury, Debt Collection, Plain Language Law and other financing and real estate laws.
