Paul M. Saito is a partner at Cades Schutte LLP where he exclusively represents and provides consultation to employers in labor and employment matters. He has extensive litigation experience and practices in the areas of employee/union relations, discrimination, wage and hour, workplace violence, wrongful termination and employment-related torts, as well as general labor areas.

He received his Bachelor's of Business Administration degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and his Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Hastings College of Law.

Mr. Saito is actively involved in counseling and educating business owners and managers on employment law issues through the Chamber of Commerce, the Society for Human Resource Management certification programs, and the University of Hawaii's Outreach College. For the past two years Mr. Saito has been a member of the board of directors for Society for Human Resources Management, Hawaii Chapter where he served as Chairperson of its Government and Legislative Affairs Committee. He has also served as Chairman of the Human Resources Committee for the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, a member of the Chamber's Government Affairs Council, and has represented employers on the States' Criminal History Record Checks Working Group. Paul was honored by the Chamber with its Chairman's Award, in 2002, and President's Award, in 2003, in appreciation of the countless hours he has devoted to representing employers before the Hawaii Legislature. Mr. Saito also volunteers his time with several community based organizations including the Palama Settlement.

Discrimination

  • Represented employers in discrimination claims based upon race, sex, age, ancestry, marital status, sexual orientation, and all categories protected by anti-discrimination laws

Wage and Hour

  • Represented employers in administrative investigations, audits and proceedings related to wage and hour laws
  • Counseled numerous employers in applying tests for determining exempt employee status allowed by the Fair Labor Standards Act

Litigation

  • Represented numerous employers in trials of wrongful termination, whistleblower and discrimination claims.
