Kaliko`onalani D. Fernandes, Andrea K. Ushijima, and Carolyn M. Voulgaridis officially sworn into the firm as Associates

The firm is pleased to officially welcome our three new associates: Kaliko D. Fernandes, Andrea K. Ushijima, and Carolyn M. Voulgaridis. The swearing in ceremony was held on Friday, November 15, 2013 at the State Capitol.
Kaliko’onalani Fernandes is an associate in the Finance and Real Estate Department, as well as the Litigation Department. Ms. Fernandes obtained her B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2010, and received her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center, cum laude, in 2013. As a law student, Ms. Fernandes served as an Executive Editor of the Annual Review of Criminal Procedure, a publication of the Georgetown Law Journal. She also received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award for Japan/U.S. Comparative Legal Studies. Prior to joining Cades Schutte, Ms. Fernandes served as a Judicial Extern to the Honorable Simeon R. Acoba, Jr. of the Hawai`i Supreme Court.
Andrea K. Ushijima is an associate in the Finance and Real Estate Department of Cades Schutte. Ms. Ushijima obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Washington, and her M.B.A. from Shidler College of Business, University of Hawai`i at Manoa. She received her law degree from William S. Richardson School of Law, University of Hawai`i, with a certificate in Environmental Law. As a law student, Ms. Ushijima served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Susan Oki Mollway, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Hawai`i, and was a teaching assistant for Legal Practice. She also received numerous awards, including the Starn O’Toole Marcus & Fisher Scholarship; Clifford K. Sr., Richard S., and Percy K. Mirikitani Memorial Scholarship; C. Jepson Garland Memorial Scholarship Award for the best paper on a real property topic; CALI Excellence for the Future Awards for the highest grade in Legal Practice, Civil Procedure, Land Use Management & Control, and Second-Year Seminar. Prior to attending law school, Ms. Ushijima worked on the mainland and in Hawai`i as a web developer and project manager.
Carolyn Voulgaridis is an associate in the Litigation Department of Cades Schutte. Ms. Voulgaridis obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Excelsior College and received her law degree from the William S. Richardson School of Law, University of Hawai`i. As a law student, Ms. Voulgaridis worked pro bono and as an extern in the area of Health Law where she gained experience working with hospitals, physicians, and other health organizations on matters such as certificate of need, risk management, HIPAA, Stark Law, and health care provider contracts. Prior to law school, Ms. Voulgaridis was the Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator for the Division of Cardiology at Albany Medical College. Ms. Voulgaridis worked in the specialty areas of Clinical Research, Emergency Care, Post-surgical Care, and Intensive Care since becoming a Registered Nurse in 2003. She is a member of the Hawai`i State Bar Association and the American Bar Association. She is admitted to practice before all Hawai`i courts and the United States District Court for the District of Hawai`i.
