  • Break down Hawai`i’s criminal background check law
  • Discuss Hawai`i court rulings (from 2015) in cases brought by job applicants denied a job because of their criminal history
  • Review federal Fair Credit Reporting Act requirements and discuss guidelines from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission

Amanda M. Jones is a litigation partner, concentrating her practice on civil trial and appellate cases, administrative proceedings, alternative dispute resolution, and compliance and risk management counseling.  A substantial portion of her practice is devoted to representing employers in administrative proceedings and litigation and advising management on employment matters.  She also advises educational institutions and represents parties in commercial and real estate disputes.

Kristin S. Shigemura is a partner in the firm’s litigation Department. Ms. Shigemura has extensive litigation and alternative dispute resolution experience in a wide variety of matters with concentration in labor and employment, medical malpractice, and health care. Ms. Shigemura represents some of Hawai`i’s largest public and private employers in all aspects of their labor and employment needs.
