Continuing to Provide Legal Services through COVID-19

To our valued clients, colleagues, and friends,

Yesterday, Governor David Ige issued a proclamation effective as of Wednesday, March 25, which extends through April 30, 2020. The proclamation orders all persons within the State of Hawaii to stay at home (or in their lodging rooms) except only for essential activities or to engage in essential business operations, including professional services. This order follows one issued on March 21, which requires a 14-day self-quarantine for all persons entering the state, starting on Thursday, March 26.

As a professional service provider, Cades Schutte continues to operate and to assist clients, although our attorneys and staff are working remotely as much as possible. Our secured systems are designed to protect confidentiality, and essential functions that cannot be performed offsite continue to be handled onsite by a limited number of people.

The governor’s latest order requires an essential business to disclose how best to reach it and continue services by phone or remotely, and to implement separate hours for older or high risk clients:

  • Our main reception desk in Honolulu can be reached at (808) 521-9200 and calls will be directed to someone who can assist you, or to one of our neighbor island offices on Maui, Kauai, or Hawaii. In addition, individual attorneys can be reached directly by phone or email. A listing of our attorneys is available at www.cades.com.
  • Anyone who is 65 or older, or who is considered at higher risk of illness under Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, that would like an appointment may contact Cades Schutte to set up a phone or other remote meeting.  If that is not feasible for you, we will arrange an in-person meeting at a time reasonably designed to avoid as many people as possible, and using recommended social distancing protocols.

We know these are challenging times, and our firm remains steadfast as we guide our clients through this evolving landscape of laws, orders, and policies.  We have stood beside our clients for nearly 100 years, and we will be here for 100 more.
