In response to the devastation caused by wildfires across Maui, the law firm of Cades Schutte LLP, together with its attorneys and staff have donated $36,630 to the Hawai‘i Community Foundation’s Maui Strong Fund. The donation is a combination of $25,000 from the firm, in addition to $11,630 of personal donations by Cades Schutte attorneys and staff. The firm’s attorneys also will be volunteering their time to participate in Legal Lines, a free resource organized by the Hawaii State Bar Association, the Legal Aid Society, and others, to provide legal information to those affected by the fires. In addition, Cades Schutte is collaborating with clients to gather and send food, clothing, bedding, and other supplies to Maui.

Separately, The Cades Foundation, a non-profit corporation, has committed to donate $25,000 to the Maui Strong Fund, and an additional $10,000 to the American Red Cross of Hawaii, which is providing shelters with information, meals, charging stations, relief supplies, and health services. “The Cades Foundation is proud to unite with the Hawai‘i Community Foundation and Red Cross of Hawaii in sending our support to the people of Maui who very much need our help now,” said E. Gunner Schull, President and Director of the Cades Foundation.

“We are grieving the loss of friends and neighbors, and we are heartsick at the destruction that the wildfires have caused on our beautiful island,” said Rick Kiefer, resident partner of the firm’s Kahului office. “While we know there is a long road to recovery, we are grateful that so many have come together to help our ‘ohana at this time of need.”

The donation is just a part of Cades Schutte’s unwavering commitment to help the communities it serves. “We mourn with everyone who has lost loved ones and livelihoods. By joining forces with local and national organizations, we hope to make a difference and contribute to the recovery process,” said Nathan T. Okubo, a member of Cades Schutte’s Management Committee. “As we move forward, we will be working with our Kahului office as well as community leaders and charitable organizations to find other ways of giving support where it is needed most.”

The wildfires, which, raced through Maui from last Tuesday, are now the nation’s deadliest in the last century, and many people are in need of support. Please visit the Hawai‘i Community Foundation website here for further information or to donate.
