Congratulations to new Cades Schutte associate Jake Honigman who recently joined our Litigation Department, practicing in the areas of environmental law, land use, and commercial litigation.
Prior to joining Cades Schutte, Jake spent ten years serving on active duty in the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps, four years as an associate in the New York office of Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP, and a year as a law clerk in federal district court.
As a Navy judge advocate, Jake’s primary assignments were as the legal counsel to the Hawai‘i-based submarine force, as head of the Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam Legal Assistance office, and as an advisor to the Judge Advocate General of the Navy on administrative law matters, including government ethics, officer promotions, and legal ethics/attorney misconduct. He also litigated administrative personnel proceedings as both defense and government-side counsel, advised on punitive proceedings under UCMJ Article 15, presided over summary courts-martial and felony preliminary hearings, and served in Guam as environmental counsel to Commander, Joint Task Force Micronesia and Commander, Joint Region Marianas.
At Cravath, Jake practiced in the areas of antitrust law, securities law and commercial litigation. His noteworthy matters included representing a credit card company in major antitrust cases brought by federal and state governments and private retailer plaintiffs and representing an investment bank in actions relating to residential mortgage-backed securities.
Jake holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Biology and Society and History from Cornell University; a Juris Doctor degree from Columbia University School of Law; and a Master of Laws degree from William S. Richardson School of Law, University of Hawai‘i specializing in both Environmental Law and Ocean Law and Policy. Jake continues to serve as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve.
