Congratulations to Cades Schutte Partner Mark K. Murakami, who will serve as the Hawaii State Bar Association (HSBA) President for 2026. As a leader in the legal community, Mark has served on the Hawaii State Bar Association board since 2015 as an Oahu Director, and on the HSBA executive committee since 2024.
As President, Mark will work to address the growing disparity between the number of attorneys entering the profession and those retiring, while also strengthening and expanding the volunteer pool for HSBA committees and activities. He also aims to increase community access to justice on neighboring islands and to better understand and help reduce the barriers to attracting qualified attorneys to judicial service. Additional goals include developing a trained network of attorneys prepared to respond during emergencies or natural disasters and enhancing HSBA’s engagement with its members.
Mark credits former HSBA Executive Director, Pat Mau-Shimizu, for encouraging him to pursue a larger leadership role within the HSBA as well as numerous prior Presidents for their steadfast examples of leadership over the years. Mark is the 8th Cades Schutte attorney to serve Hawaiʻi as HSBA President and we proudly congratulate him on this accomplishment.
