Cades Schutte partners Andrea K. Ushijima, Pōhai Nu‘uhiwa Campbell and Mark K. Murakami served as panelists at the Activation Summit for Women Lawyers (and Their Friends and Allies) at a two-day event hosted February 11-12, 2026 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The event was presented by the Institute for Inclusion in the Legal Profession and brought together lawyers, judges, and law students to examine challenges faced by the legal profession. Attendees examined these challenges through a professional lens, shared strategies for effective advocacy and leadership, and developed tools to engage productively both within organizations and in the broader community. The event was held in conjunction with the National Association of Women Lawyers (NAWL) first board meeting of the year and officer installation. Sandra Yamate, a former summer associate at Cades Schutte LLP, is NAWL’s 99th President, and the first Asian American to hold that role in NAWL’s 127-year history.

Andrea K. Ushijima is a partner in Cades Schutte’s Finance, Real Estate and Corporate Department and is an active member of the Firm’s Marketing Committee. She joined a panel entitled “Women Lawyers: Leading Teams and Lifting All Boats – How are Women Lawyers Making It Rain.” This panel explored how the climate for business development has changed for lawyers who are women, people of color, openly LGBTQ+, or part of other underrepresented and marginalized groups, and how to uplift and support their business development efforts.

Pōhai Nu‘uhiwa Campbell is a partner in Cades Schutte’s Trust & Estates Department and an active member of the Firm’s Recruiting Committee. She joined the panel entitled “Who’s Going to Law School? Talent Management to Motivate the Next Generations of Lawyers.” This panel is aimed at understanding who is choosing law school and why, and what these students expect (and will perhaps demand) from the profession when they enter it.

Mark K. Murakami is a partner in Cades Schutte’s Finance, Real Estate and Corporate Department and is serving as the Hawaii State Bar Association president for 2026. He joined a panel entitled “Bar leaders in a Time of Challenge” exploring how bar association leaders are rising to current challenges, and what may be unique to Hawaii’s legal community.

The National Association of Women Lawyers mission is to provide leadership, a collective voice, and essential resources to advance women in the legal profession and advocate for the equality of women under the law.  Since 1899, NAWL has been empowering women in the legal profession, cultivating a diverse membership dedicated to equality, mutual support, and collective success.
