Calvert G. Chipchase Named Chair of Cades Schutte Litigation Department

Cades Schutte proudly announces that Calvert G. Chipchase, who has been a vital member of the firm’s Litigation Department for more than 23 years, was elected Chair of the Litigation Department effective January 9, 2026. With more than 40 attorneys, the Cades Schutte Litigation Department represents clients in all forms of civil litigation and dispute resolution, including jury and non-jury trials, arbitrations, mediations, negotiations, other alternative dispute resolution processes, and governmental hearings.

Cal also serves as Chair of Cades Schutte’s Real Estate Disputes Group and focuses his practice on real estate and land use controversies, challenges to land use approvals and environmental review, and disputes with governmental agencies. He is recognized by Best Lawyers® as the 2026 Litigation – Real Estate “Lawyer of the Year” in Honolulu; he is one of only two Hawaiʻi lawyers included in the 2025 Lawdragon 500 Leading Real Estate Lawyers; and has been recognized in the Chambers & Partners USA Guide for General Commercial Litigation since 2014, and Real Estate: Zoning/Land Use since 2017.

Cades Schutte partners Trisha H.S.T. Akagi and Christopher T. Goodin join Cal in leading the litigation team as Co-Vice Chairs of the Litigation Department.

The firm expresses its gratitude to Kelly G. LaPorte, who previously chaired the Litigation Department, and has transitioned to Senior Counsel in 2026.
