Calvert G. Chipchase, partner and chair of the Litigation Department at Cades Schutte LLP, will serve as program co-chair and presenter at an upcoming seminar hosted by The Seminar Group, titled Hawaii’s Shoreline: Legal & Regulatory Issues, Sea Level Rise and Adaptation.
With the fourth-longest coastline of any U.S. state, and as the nation’s only island state, Hawaii is uniquely positioned to lead in climate change adaptation. This seminar will explore the intersection of shoreline law, regulatory frameworks, cultural and natural resource management, and coastal resilience. A central focus will be the growing impact of sea level rise on low-lying coastal communities, infrastructure, and sensitive environmental and cultural resources across the islands.
Bringing together professionals from diverse disciplines, the program will feature perspectives on shoreline management as well as legal and regulatory responses to evolving climate challenges.
In addition to his role as co-chair, Chipchase will present a case study examining how recent shoreline policies are being implemented in practice. This marks his fourth time serving as co-chair of the biannual Honolulu-based program.
The two-day seminar is designed for attorneys, engineers, erosion and sediment control professionals, land planners, floodplain managers, conservationists, and government officials. Attendees may earn up to 10.25 Hawaiʻi CLE credits, 10.5 California CLE general credits, and 10.5 CM credits through the American Planning Association.
The event will take place May 21–22 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort. Additional information is available through the program website: Hawaii’s Shoreline:
