Intellectual Property
With worldwide experience, our global intellectual property attorneys have experience in matters ranging from patent and trademark applications, to trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings, and complex licensing matters.  We regularly file patent and trademark applications for both foreign clients in the U.S. and for U.S. clients around the world.  Extensive networks of foreign correspondents allow our attorneys to represent our U.S. and foreign clients’ interest in trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings across multiple jurisdictions.  We also assist U.S. clients in patent and trademark licensing matters in foreign countries, and leverage our network to obtain advice on matters of foreign law.

Tax Planning
Our international tax planning attorneys possess the expertise to develop the most comprehensive and effective tax structures and strategies for international clients whose U.S. investments affect income tax planning, estate taxes, and foreign taxes, among other legal matters. Beginning with Hong Kong-based clients, including Jardine Matheson & Co., Ltd. and the Shaw Organization, Ltd., nearly half a century ago, we have grown to represent numerous individuals and corporations from the Asia-Pacific region on tax matters and tax planning for capital investments, loans, real estate and business acquisitions, dispositions, and formation of offshore investment companies.  We have trusted relationships with foreign counsel to aid our clients in navigating the intricate interplay of international tax laws seamlessly across borders.

Litigation and Dispute Resolution
Drawing upon interdisciplinary and cross-cultural knowledge, our transnational litigation and dispute resolution attorneys have assisted clients in international negotiations, arbitrations, and litigation proceedings. While we have particular experience in transportation infrastructure and business-related disputes in the international arena, as a full-service law firm, we are ready to assist clients wherever their needs may take them.  Australia, Singapore, Japan, New Zealand, and Malaysia are a few of the nations in which our attorneys have advocated for U.S. clients.  We have also represented foreign clients in numerous litigation and dispute resolution proceedings in federal and state courts and before administrative agencies in the U.S.

Real Estate and Development
Hawai`i‘s real estate has long been popular with foreign investors, and we have been guiding them every step of the way.  With the right assistance, unique situations can be transformed into opportunities.  Our attorneys have represented foreign real estate developers in property purchases and all aspects of acquisition, financing and development of specific luxury condominium projects in the State.  We have attorneys and paralegals with language capabilities in Japanese and Chinese and a homegrown understanding of resolving distinctive real estate issues in Hawai‘i.

Corporate Law and Commercial Contracts
Our transactional attorneys have assisted many corporate clients who frequent the international arena. We have experience counseling diversified multinational companies and foreign stakeholders in connection with U.S. corporate financings, reorganizations, and corporate governance. Domestic clients looking to expand overseas can benefit from our expertise, which extends to representing businesses manufacturing in Asia or affiliating with foreign counterparts and providing cross border legal opinions regarding global transactions.
